Since I saw the dust collection pipe thread below, and didnt want to hijack it, I added a new one.

In the Pittsburgh area, I think I have called everywhere within 20 miles. They either don't carry it, don't understand, or try to sell me SDR35.

I called all around looking for the lightweight sewer and drain (ASTM 2729), and I have just about given up even looking for it anymore, and I am just going to buy it from McMaster Carr. Delivery will cost me @ $100, so I am just around $600 for the material, add in another $700 - $800 for the collector itself, an I am under $1500 for the entire DC system. Ill upgrade as the time goes on as needed.

If interested, prices posted below:

2426K95, Underground Sewer and Drain PVC Pipe Unthreaded, 6 Trade Size X 10' Length, $32.05 each

Who are you calling? You need to go to a supply house, not places like Home Depot. I think I pay about $10 for 10' of 2729. At least go somewhere more reasonable than McMaster Carr, but I can almost guarantee that someone in your area carries this stuff.

US Supply here in mid-state. don't know who may be out your way. about $12/10ft pc when I bought it three years ago.

I'd look harder. I am going to buy mine locally for $15 each. Don't know about the fittings, but I presume they will be cheaper also.
The place I found mine sells mainly to farmers (or so I assume, as there is nothing but farms for 20 miles...); a store in "town" suggested them.
There must be farms around Pittsburgh.
But hey, Pittsburgh is only a 5 hour drive!

Just for chuckles, try calling the largest landscaping company in your local area and ask them where they buy it.

I saw on a different forum people were buying from Ferguson Waterworks. There is one in the Pittsburgh area, but I don't know how far it would be from you.

And my experience says to ask for "thin wall sewer and drain pipe". The yard I got mine from here in Ft. Worth, Morrison, had no clue what S&D 2729 pipe was. I went out in their yard, found it, took the counter guy out with me and pointed to the stencil that said "S&D 2729" on the side of the pipe. It just amazes me sometimes.

And do talk to someone that does plumbing for septic systems and find out where they buy their pipe. That will be the place to look for it. Shipping kills the price from MC. I did buy a lot of my fittings from them as they were much cheaper when I bought my stuff.

But also look for a local manufacturer of spiral metal pipe. Most of these are little Mom and Pop shops that supply HVAC contractors. A lot of people have reported they got this for equal or less than the 2729 PVC pipe was for them. Jim.

I went to three different places, all said they carried it, but then had SDR35, or said they had the pipe, but couldnt get the fittings.

There is a Ferguson here in PIttsburgh, two actually, and one right down the road from where I work in Cranberry Township. I called, they transfered me to thier plant by the airport, and once they called me back, they referred me to thier "Cranberry" store......go figure.

My supplier did not recognize the number 2729 either. But they had it in stock. When went to load it I showed him the number on the pipe. My cost was $1.50/Ft. Y's $16.17 and 45's $7.92.

I am trying to set up my system, also.
I just got off the phone with Ferguson Waterworks in San Antonio. He didn't know what 2729 pipe was:confused:

6" SDR35 14' lengths of pipe $2.76 per foot
6x6x6 wye 28.31
6x6x4 wye 24.67
45 degree ell 14.41
6" couplings 8.84

I am surprised how high all this was:(

That was one reason I went with 26 ga steel snaplock. I knew where to get it at a good price.

+1 to what Jim said, ask for "thin wall" PVC at a local plumbing supply house. The fittings you can find online, and even get free shipping if you order enough, but the pipe would be prohibitively expensive to ship.

I just got off the phone with Morrison supply in San Antonio. I didn't ask for 2729 pipe this time, just said, "sewer and drain"

6" SDR35 20' lengths of pipe $2.50 per foot
6x6x6 wye 19.26
6x6x4 wye 16.78
45 degree ell 9.78
6" couplings 6.00

SDR 35 has the same OD as thin walled S&D ASTM 2729, so uses the same fittings, but . . . . SDR-35 has a thicker wall (therefore smaller ID), is much heavier (almost twice as heavy!!!), and is more expensive than ASTM 2729. Try asking for thin walled "solid perf" Sewer and drain or "PVC DS". (thin-walled S&D is available in solid and perforated forms at many locations). This link to Kelly Supply (http://kscdirect.com/images/PDF/A_46.pdf)compares Sched 40, SDR35, and ASTM 2729. PS they sell ASTM 2729 for $2.07/ft.

John Deere Landscapes, a nation-wide landscaping products supplier used to carry ASTM 2729. If they still carry it, make sure you say you are in the landscaping or home building business, or else they will try to charge you double!

Try an irrigation warehouse...that is where I got my 2729.

Also, 2 45s are better than a 90 and usually cheaper than a long-radius 90, which is nearly equivalent to 2 45s.

I bought lots of 45s and used them quite a bit...they are handy for snaking around things if the need arises.

I also got all my fittings at McMaster-Carr.

Oh, be sure to support the wye if there is any decent weight on them...that leg will crack over time. I learned this the hard way although easy to fix with some caulk and proper strapping/support.

You will likely need some 6" metal duct, too. It fits snugly inside the 2729. I used it to make collars to accept the 6" flex.

I stopped by my local hardware store and they don't have it but can order it, and the gal knew what 2729 pipe was:rolleyes: Go figure

6" 2729 pipe 10' lengths of pipe $1.60 per foot
6x6x6 wye 25.00
6x6x4 wye not available
45 degree ell 13.55
6" couplings 8.30

6x4 reducer coupling 10.95

I guess I can get the pipe from her and the fittings from Morrison. Works for me:o

I bought my ASTM2729 from Ferguson WaterWorks here in Connecticut. They are nationwide. At first they had no clue as to what I was talking about, but they were kind enough to check...and Voila. They not only had it, but they delivered it to my house at no cost. I paid about $15 for 6"x10' and elbows and wyes were much cheaper than McMasters. They delivered everything on a pallet and I believe I paid about $400. I had 10 lengths of 10' and a bunch of elbows, wyes, 6"x4" reducers, some caps and other stuff. I remember posting both here and at the ClearVue forum

No 2729 available here in Alaska.. found SDR35... albeit at $5.85/ft in 10' sticks, $8.85/ft in custom lengths. Let's hear it for killer freight and labor rates. :-/

The health dept will not allow the thin wall in sewer systems here in central Kansas, and I was only able to find 4" when I set up my system in '05. So I used spiral pipe. It cost about 1000 for pipe and fittings.
