I have inherited a Sears 12 X 36 tube lathe. I know they are not very well thought of but it's a start. At this point I'm interested in chair spindles and tool handles and it should be OK for those. I also got a 8 piece set of Craftsman lathe tools, HSS, with the lathe. When Lee Valley had their free shipping, I got a Wolverine set and a VariGrind (original).

Now I'm shopping for a steb center and found this one on eBay # 130812952035 for $30 versus the Sorby for $68. Anyone with any experience with the one from eBay? Or are there any other recommendations you may suggest?

Thanks, Paul

The ebay steb center is a MT1 - does this fit with your lathe?

I bought the center from PSI and have been very pleased with it. This one:

+1 on the Penn State Industries steb center.......less than $20 when I purchased mine, and it works very well.......make sure you get the correct morse taper for your lathe!

Thanks for the feedback, guys. The PSI looks good to me. The #1 MT is what I need for both head and tail. I already picked up a tail live center.
