I have recently gotten a Powermatic 60 8in. jointer. The guard spring is missing. It has a the guard that is shaped like a pork-chop extending from a rod. It is a mid-60s model if I had to guess.

Can someone who has one (or similar) please give me dimensions or further details on the spring? I'm sure I could find something from McMaster-Carr or Fastenal - just don't know what the spring should look like so I can be in the ballpark.

Thanks -
C.J.

Cary,

I have a PM 60 and I will take a close look at the spring in the morning. In the mean time, have you checked the Owner's Manual or contacted Powermatic for specifics about the spring? If you don't have a manual you can find one to download on line.

Thanks Creek-ers for the great response!!

In the manual they note the setup shown in Ben's photos. The threaded stud w/ shorter spring would allow some adjustment of tension. The parts list notes a 1/2" OD extension spring, 3-3/4" long. Any chance either or both of you fellas could give me a measurement or close estimate of the diameter of the spring wire?

Thanks - C.J.

I will get my calipers on it tonight when I am in the shop and let you know.
