Question: I'm considering a new cordless drill. Currently I have an older DeWalt 14.4 with the XR batteries. If I get a new DeWalt with 14.4 XRP batteries, will the new XRPs work on the older drill?

Thanks -- Kevin

Dewalt XR and XRP batteries are interchangeable.

...And the new xrp batteries do actually last longer, and are rebuildable.

I've got a gloat for this one. I was in Lowes one day awhile back and there were some of the new XRP batteries on the rack that had a clearance sticker on them, like $35 each (12 V) vs. the $55 each regular price. So I bought two. Well it turns out the new XRP's had the same sku, and model number as the old batteries.

Kevin, The XRP's will work in the old tech. Actually I have read that you can have the XR's rebuilt (Battery store), to XRP specs...

Thanks for the replies. I will be getting the new drill soon. Does this qualify as a pre-gloat?

All of the old XR batteries that I have are glued together. I can't find a good way to open them up to rebuild them. The newer XRP's are actually screwed together.

Jeff, If you have any more information, I have four 12V batteries that need to be re-built.
