This is made from several layers of 8/4 Padauk and some 1/4" Cocobolo. I followed John Keeton's advice of putting the contrasting wood at a seam between layers and that also makes sense in the design.
I will enjoy the color while it is here, and in a year or so I'll enjoy the deep brown that it will change into. This is from the same stock that I made a rocking chair out of a few years ago, so I have watched the change happen.
The variety of colors comes from turning it around and letting the sun reflect off of different grain angles.
