So, I tried something new this past week. Havent done a bottle opener yet so I thought I'd give it a shot. The first one, I used the brass tube that came with the component set and it sorta felt too small ..... so the second one, I took the brass tube, cut it in half and made the blank longer, since you are only pressing in the cap and the head...I like that much much better.
The smaller one is some Pecan and the larger one is 110 yr old heart pine from a school we tore down this past summer.

thanks for looking.

I like those Lee. Do you like that kit? I saw that one, but wasn't sure if I would like dealing with the tube. This one (figured maple) is turned on a screw mandrel.

very nice!
I make quite a few pens, so the tubes dont bother me at all. In fact, I will most likely make my next one a 'closed end' just like yours

I actually considered replacing the 'cap' part with one of the stylus tips ... you know how nice it is to open beers and surf the web on your smart phone!

Nice openers. What's the wood on the second one?

Nice work on the openers. I've not tried one yet, but have one in the to do section of the work shop.
