Is there a type of powerstrip that has 8 or more outlets in single row and also has surge protection?

I like the kind that is a metal channel with ample space between the outlets, but I've never seen a model that had surge protection.

Plug the strip into a surge protected power strip. Be careful that you don't overload the strip.

Look in computer networking equipment. Here's one that has 16 outlets, surge protection, wide spacing, although may be too long for your needs: http://www.amazon.com/Tripp-Lite-SS7415-15-Multiple-Protection/dp/B00019OWWW. Or, if you don't mind length, look further down in the page for a 72" model with 24 outlets; that would make a good strip for the workbench area.

David,

I'd go for that idea ( plugging the strip into a surge protected strip) if it didn't create clutter. I prefer to mount my powerstrips on the sides of my homebuilt shelves and desks and not have any strips on the floor. In my system, there isn't always room for 2 power strips together.

You're an expert Amazon searcher! I searched on Amazon but didn't find that page.

This one's only 24" long. Has 8 outlets:
