Lidded walnut box, approx. 3" dia. x 2 3/8" ht. DO, Tripoli buffed only. I really like the contrast of the spalted sapwood.

I love boxes...........

C & C welcome, as always.......http://photos.imageevent.com/richinva/turning/boxes/websize/wwalnut%20box%20001.jpg

And thanks to MS for inspiration. You have a great eye, sir..........

It's a beauty, but I'm wondering why you stopped with the tripoli and didn't use the white diamond?

Ted,

I rarely use WD on walnut anyway, but I have, for the most part, stopped using anything past the Tripoli for several months now with good results. With utility pieces, whatever wax is applied at the end of the buffing process will wear off with normal handling anyway. This won't apply to "artsy" pieces, and I continue to go the full spectrum of Tripoli, WD, and Ren wax.

That is a beautiful little box. I love the way the spalt lines up but I am especially impressed with your photography! Really shows the piece to its best advantage.

Very nice. The spalt lines almost look like they were drawn on.

Richard, I'm sorry for not reading your post thoroughly. That spalting said maple to me. Had I read carefully I wouldn't have asked the question because I do the same for walnut. A self-Gibbs slap to me:)

OK, here's a pic of the inside. 251739

Thanks for all of the comments. As some others have said, I also think the top is a bit "domey" and somewhat too tall. I really struggle with the shape of the tops, it's so easy to go too far that I guess I have a tendency to not go enough.

Beautiful box, I hope to get to that level someday.
