Joel Moskowitz describes how to dress grinder wheels with a crown for hand tool sharpening, but for some tools the wheel needs to be flat and square to the tool rest. There are commercial tools available to do this, but many of us like to make our own. I made mine from SYP 2x4, but any wood will do. None of the dimensions are critical. Mine is about 3x5x1.5. I drilled and tapped the wood rather than threaded inserts. A thumbscrew to advance the diamond-tipped wheel dresser, and another to lock it in place. A short piece of angle iron to register on the back of the tool rest. The rabbett for the angle iron is a bit deeper than the iron is thick so it registers on the flat and not on the curve. Aluminum angle is more square in the corner, but I didn't have any when I made this. Also, I cut a couple of inches off my dresser. My apologies if I'm re-inventing the wheel with this.
