Any woods that increase the chance of corrosion or staining?
I have the choice of cherry, oak, black walnut, ash, and pine
thanks!

Of those, oak has the most chance of staining, and would certainly be the heaviest box/cabinet.
You could do cherry or walnut for the primary wood and pine for the secondary.

Adapted from Shopnotes #49 vol 9.
Theirs was too fancy, and made of maple.
I added the bottom drawer.
