This is rather long winded, but I found it quite interesting. Estimate of how old the tree was is around 660 years old and was cut down somewhere around 150 - 170 years ago. What I don't get is why did they just leave em in the river after all the effort to fell the tree!

Anyway enjoy you can skip forward but may wind up with a few commercials you can opt out of.

it was common to collect the felled trees in the river until a full raft or season was done, then take the entire raft downriver to process. During the time the logs sat in the river, some would become waterlogged and sink. Raising them was more effort than simply cutting another.
