Stopped at our local pub after work to celebrate the birthday of my wife's lifetime friend. Got home to tune into Norm on the net and was amazed at a segment that I had never seen. I really like the style of this cabinet that he made from Poplar [which we have in large demand]. I'd like to replicate but instead of wood shelving in the upper half, I would like to use glass and compliment with lighting hidden near the front of the top shelf. As well, instead of painting the unit, I wonder what stain would look like on poplar[never tried it]. I'm thinking a darker type with Laquer to finish with. Perhaps I'll build two of, one for my daughter's new home and one for our church auction this coming summer. Any thoughts on stain for poplar or should I stick to the solid birch? Greg
