View Full Version : Beginner dovetail glue up/planing question

After getting the joints nice and tight on a box, do you typically glue first and then plane them smooth? It's a pull out drawer that has through dovetails in the back and half-blind on the front. Thanks!

Glue first than plane. If you plane before glue up the joint will have some movement in it and you'll need to plane again to get everything smooth and flush after glue up anyway.

Glue first.

Bash into roughly square shape.
Allow to twist in poorly ventilated woodshop.

Step on in darkness, when turning on light.

Reglue fragments.
Plane into shape.

Enter in "fine furnishings" contest as Deconstructed Rococo assemblage.
