I posted this HF before, asking for suggestions for a finish. I went with the AO as suggested by many Creekers. I'm glad I did. It really highlighted the grain.

That is wild. I love the contrast between wild, untamed wood and a very intentional form. I really like it.

I typically don't get too worked up about beads but they really make this piece exceptional. Form and finish are well done!

This is very nice Eric........great form and your beads and the grain on this piece of wood just set it off.......Nice!

I'm not too fond of wide mouthed jugs. They look fine on the lathe and then you stand it up and realize you've just turned a spitoon....
That said, I heartily agree with Brian Kent's comment, the contrast between the wild grain and format shape makes the piece. Good beadwork and good presentation of the grain. I haven't used AO, but any oil finish generally brings out the grain.

Thanks for the replies.
Thom, I agree with what you said about wide mouthed jugs. Once I took this off of the lathe, I was struck by how big the mouth was. I'm going to do another Oak HF with a more narrow mouth to see how that looks.

Looks great Eric! Lots of character in that wood and your beads are very well done!

Nice work. At first glance, I thougth it looked more like hickory than oak. The beads do set it off.

Before I read the comments I thought it reminded me of the old fashion brass spitoons. I have wanted to make a spitoon and I like and it of course needs a wide mouth. I like it and have a oak piece on the lathe, Maybe it will tell me it wants to be a spitoon. Ok brain freeze what is a AO finish?

I love the fine details but also how it changed shape after it dried!
