Well, in no way is this fine furniture. It's all construction grade pine left "rustic" since I don't have a planer and the belt sander could only do so much. I sealed it with de-waxed shellac before using a gel stain glaze and satin poly, as well as paste wax. The wood probably wasn't dry enough prior to flattening since the growth rings have raised a bit. 2x4's for the rails, 2x12's for the top, and 4x4's for the legs all connected with glue and pocket screws. I made it narrower so we could move around it better, but now we can't push the chair in at the ends. Next time I'll measure the chairs first!250014250015250016

It will become a family heirloom - yup, it will last for ever and be used in all kinds of wondrous ways. Who could ask for more? :)

Just curious about the pocket screws. All mine are fairly short. Do they come in longer sizes for projects of this type?

Yes, I used 2 5/8" pocket screws from McFeelys.

You know, you decried it as $50 construction lumber, but that looks a lot like stuff a lot of people pay a lot of money for at those fancy trendy stores. I think yours looks better than a lot of that stuff. It'll do nicely! Good job!

One of the famous old time furniture makers said something like--"better to build furniture from timber than sticks".

As the years pass you'll grow to love it.

Nice table ! It reminds me a lot of a table at a camp I was once at where every guest was given a pocket knife and asked to "sign " the guest registry by carving their name into the top of the table. After a lot of years it REALLY started to look special.
