My BIL asked me to turn an urn for his best friend that passed. This my first actual hollow form. Yellow birch burl and walnut with CA finish. Size is about 6 x 5". Critiques welcome for future improvements. Sorry about the crappy iPhone pics. Got a new camera for Xmas but still need to make a light tent.

Phil - you can sure tell that the Birch is playing with the light! Wow - really some pretty wood! I'm sure your friend will appreciate your efforts!

Maybe it's just me but the thumbnails of your photos do not show up. I am taking a guess that the original photos are larger than what the site software can handle when it comes to resizing. Max is around 1200 pixels if I remember correctly. No big deal - folks can click on the links to view the urn.

Very nice Phil. Great looking finish. Is the cover threaded?

Thanks Greg, I should have mentioned that I used ABS pipe fittings.

Very nice form and finish Phil. I really like the walnut and birch combination and the top design fits the form nicely. Good job!

Nice work, Phil. Yellow birch is nice wood to work with - havent had the opportunity to turn a yellow birch burl.

looks really nice, beautiful finish as well. I will give one word of advise about the ABS fitting. I used one on the urn I made to hold my fathers remains this year and by the time it was filled and then we got together to spread the ashes the lid would not come off. I thought that the wood was dry enough but I guess it moved just enough to squeze the threads so tight that I had to actually break the lid off in order to open it.
