I bought a 16" 1960’s vintage cresent jointer while ago and thinking need to add some oil to the bearings. Their oil bath bearings, Guy bought from told me what he added but can’t remember so anyone that can steer me in Wright direction would be appreciated

thanks Eugene

Long time ago ,tech guy at Castrol told me single viscosity are better where temperature permits,as they have more anti wear additives than multi viscosity . Don't know which weight would be best.

We use 80/90 in oil bath farm bearings. A jointer turns faster though than most of our machines, so it may be different. It wouldn't hurt anything though.

Is the jointer direct drive, and are there oil cups? If so use Velocite #10, get it from McMaster-Carr

I use compressor oil in mine ( a 12 inch Crescent). It's straight 30 wt without the detergents.

McMaster-Carr

It's listed under "Spindle Oil"
Got pics of the machine?

Oliver used a medium oil like DTE heavy-medium ISO68. Porter used a lighter oil like spindle oil 15 SAS 75-100. Any similar oil will work as 3600 rpm isn't all that fast. Dave

Velocite oils are available from McMaster and Enco. I use Velocite 10 in mine, but for a while I did use 30wt. I have the Crescent 16" and a Crescent light 8". Great jointers.
