Picked some maple blanks up at my Rocklar store a couple of months ago. It came from the outside edge of the tree and was more like soft maple than the advertised hard maple. Undercut the rim with a long swept back 1/2" spindle gouge. Beads were turned with 3/8" spindle gouge. A couple coats of Fornby's oil and 3 coats of lacquer. The shop was a little cold this morning so I will have to buff the finish a little yet. It measures about 11" by 1 1/2" deep. Not sure if the quilting is real or just some funky sap wood grain pattern.
