When I got one, I felt the same. I think that it is just one of those things that you have to work with to get the hang of it. The first thing for me was learning to sharpen it or whatever you call it. That took me some practice but after awhile it worked extremely well and I could get a board as smooth as a .......

It is also interesting to me that different surfaces of the same wood take stain and finish different. I found a difference between sanded and a scraper.

I got the radius kit. I love it for cleaning up the flutes when the router bit leaves that bump in the bottom.
