A few days before Christmas the LOML came to me with a list of six ladies in the extended 'family' and asked if I could turn something for them. I had some 3x3x6 stock so I turned six boxes. then she came to me with another request - another box. They were all wrapped before I got pictures, so I managed to get a few when they were unwrapped!

Nice selection of boxes. You make it look easy. I'm interested if you have "popping" lids and also your finish. It also looks like the last one, walnut, was cross grain, and if so, did you have any issue with fit and expansion?

Thanks Bernie, that is one of my favorites, it was a fun practice with the d-way beading tool. I kind of prefer the third, the other three (that got away) were all rather plain. the first was kind of a challenge with the inlay.

Thomas, I've made enough of these lately, what with doing a demo for the club, that I usually have no problem getting a popping lid, but often sand it to loosen them at the request of the recipient or if the recipient is elderly. These are finished with a light coat of walnut oil and then Beall buffed and REN waxed. I would normally use lacquer but did not have time. Yes the Walnut is cross grain, but is kiln dried stock so there should be little problem. I made the top a little loose on that one too.
