Was viewing today's Wash Post photo essay of notable deaths of 2012.

It struck me that 2013 will be the first year of my life where there will not be a "next Doc Watson" performance to see.

From a small, dark bar in downtown Detroit, to the famed Birchmere in Alexandria VA, to a small, dark club in Atlanta, and many other venues in between - large and small. Can't count the times.

I saw him in 1979 in a tiny little place called The Main Point. There were maybe 50 people there.
