This was first posted in the Neanderthal Haven forum. Not sure if everyone looks in there or not, so it is being posted here for those who may want to do a little extra for the cooks and bakers in your life.

One thing that you might do for the cook or baker in your house...

The spatulas (my wife calls it a flipper) we have purchased over the years all seem to come with a square edge. This doesn't work well with hot cookies and other things for that matter.

This is one of the places where my preference is for bevel up design. It only takes a few minutes depending on what sharpening set up you have. Don't make it sharp like a chisel or other edged cutting tool. Ours are not real sharp, but sharp enough to cut some items while they are cooking. Do not use these in coated pans. We only use wood or plastic utensils in our coated pans.

It might be wise to ask first or just go out and buy a new one, give it a bevel and see how they like it. Of course if you do it as a surprise, it can always be returned to a blunt edge with a little more work.

Merry Christmas,

That's a great idea- especially for things that are peeled off the pan, like pancakes.
