This is a salt box my sister in law has been asking me to make. It is from a piece of a burl called cochinchin that she actually gave me a couple of years ago. It measures about 3 3/4 wide by 4 1/2 high. I think the swivel hinge I made will work well. I tried rare earth magnets, but they were not strong enough to support the weight of the lid. The outside finish is Minwax antique oil and the bowl was treated with walnut oil. I think I'm now done with all my Christmas presents.

REM's should work fine Greg. If you caught my tutorial on FWW, they'll work fine.

Jim:
I had read a article in the December 2011 issue of Woodturning Design that featured a salt box by Steve Sherman. Do you have a link to your tutorial?

Nice little box, Greg. Love the character in the wood. The details also look good....
