Please - any good recommendations for a good custom sofa cushion company? With a web site?

I am in the process of building a sofa but I am finding few sources for custom cushions - other than boat cushion type companies. I found Cushions Xpress - http://www.cushionsxpress.com/. They seem to offer good product with lots of options but I have no customer feedback info. Reluctant to make a $ 500.00 or $600.00 commitment to a company with no info. I asked for some fabric samples 3 days ago and have yet to get any response to my request so I don't think they are a true web company. Yes, I could call for swatches but the e-mail and their response is kind of my default way of testing if a company is more than a web site.

Thanks for any feedback.

Hi Sam,

I have used the Custom Shop in Watertown, MA (just outside of Boston) to have some existing cushions re-foamed. They are a real store with a huge selection of fabrics and foams and such- although I have no idea how good they are with web-based ordering as I just drove over to the shop.

They always appear to be very busy and old-school from inside the shop (not a high-tech looking operation), but their service was great and on time.

Google "the custom shop" watertown, ma, I think their web address has something to do with upholstery (and not their name, which has changed over the years).

Regards,

Matt

Thanks Matt - that's a good start - and closer to home too. Others?

Surely there's has to be an upholsterer in at least in one of the bigger Maine cities?

I agree with Matt. I would check with a local upholstery shop.

Be aware however. Recently I was looking for some high density foam to pad a project. I found some at a local fabric shop but due to the increase in the price of oil, the cost of foam floored me!

Yeah guys, but I need to find one and have had no web search success. There are lots of boat cushion shops around me but none that qualify as furniture worthy, especially in regards to foam and fabric options. I'd rather not need to drive an 1-1/2 + during the work week to go look at something on the chance...
Thought someone here might say - use this company or yes, Cushions Xpress is great.

Ann Matt - Don't call be Surely :D.

I did a Google search for "reupholstering furniture portland maine" and found a few:

http://www.libertybellfurniture.com/furniture-reupholstery
http://www.brunswickreupholstering.com/
http://www.superpages.com/bp/US/Atlantic-Furniture-Reupholstery-L2039363720.htm
http://richardmercierupholstery.com/

That last once has a really nice blue floral couch

Thank you Matt. I casually looked at these links and will need to make a few inquiries but I am not looking to reupholster but rather have new cushions made to my specifications. This is different than what these company seem to offer. I will need to call some local decorators for advice depending on the responses I get here.

But someone re-uphohlstering a couch would often need to make new cushions for it. There might be a few places around that do only new work but the vast majority are going to do most of their work on existing furniture.
