I have a couple cross cut that I use a lot but don't like the stock handles that came with them. Although I have small to medium sized hands for some reason I feel more comfortable/in-control with thicker handles. The grips on my tennis rackets are for someone close to 6'4", the badminton rackets I used to play with, in younger days, had two towel overgrips.
I want to change the stock handle on atleast one of the saws but I have a few questions since I have not done this before.
1. I noticed that most stock handles are roundish, is that because of tradition or is there a mechanical reason behind it. To me it seems a slightly square handle will provide more control in terms of keeping the blade angle consistent.
2. How about the weight. Traditional Japanese handles are not very heavy. To me a handle with heavier wood will provide more control.
3. Traditional handles are always straight, although the piston grip type are showing up now. What benefits does a straight handle have on some thing like a pistol grip in terms of accuracy and control.
4. Are their any plans available to make your own, a google search doesn't reveal anything interesting.
thanks for any advice.
