Holiday song? What is the strangest Holiday Song? If you can find a link on Youtube or other site, please add it to your post so we can all listen. I'll start with my favorite: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WSUFzC6_fp8 This is by the group in my signature line that I have been following for the past year. I'll add the strangest one later, but want to give some of you a chance to get one in first. Oh, and on mine, be sure to have the subwoofer on, or you'll miss a lot of what Avi, the bass, sings. Jim.

I really like the Drifters version of White Christmas and the Cartoon that goes with it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ooc5eJc5SHA
Really gets me in the Christmas Spirit!

I also like Santa Baby by Eartha Kitt http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g7T0IK99ELs

This is going to be a fun thread! I can't wait to see what everyone comes up with!

This is my favorite Christmas song with video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i7TVNY0RBiQ Johnny Cash, "The man comes around Sarah Conner Chronicles

Moses, I can understand a Johnny Cash song, but that one's not very Christmassy, even for an entry in the strangest Christmas song category.:D Is that really the one you wanted to link to?

Bruce, the Boss is always in style.

Larry, Santa Baby is pretty sultry. I hadn't heard her version, maybe the original?? Thought it was funny, one of the videos to the right was by the group I linked to above singing Marvin Gaye's "Let's Get It On".

Chris, my wife would probably vote with you on the TSO entry. I think that song was the first video I saw Christmas lights linked to on a house. Hadn't seen this video before.

Graham, interesting....The sentiment brought back remembrance of Jethro Tull's "A Christmas Song" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aFvth5GWFSw

Ok, here's my entry in the strange category. Eclipse does some very normal Christmas music, 5 and 6 part harmonies. They have been around for over 10 years, but I never heard of them before this year. Again, it's a capella. I'm kind of on an a capella kick this year. It's a live performance. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4nFBNQDMxqs

The Eartha Kitt version is the most well know version. I suppose it is the original, but I do not know. Actually it is the only version I know of. Who does a different one? You did not mention the other one I posted. That one is so cool. It is my favorite. You just can't help but to sing along.

I second "O Holy Night".

However, I have never heard "Hands Down".

I'll Be Home For Christmas, or O Holy Night. But probably O Holy Night, whose line "oh hear the angel voices" is probably the best single line in a carol. Gives me goosebumps everytime it's done right.

I always thought this one was kinda funny. Haven't really heard it much since I moved away from the Midwest.

Every year since the kids were small we would read "How The Grinch Stole Christmas". I would read it in my best Boris Karloff voice and at the appropriate moments everyone would join in and sing the song. To this day it just isn't christmas unles I get that song stuck in my head. There is even a karaoke version to sing along to. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=35WgpMq6e3o

My work is pretty conventional. My character is not. Someday my work will reflect my character but for right now I am scared to let it out. I like Christmas music okay. I like it a lot more in May. My radio station (the only one I like) is playing 24/7 Christmas right now, so I listen to it on my half hour commute but it's boring. One of my hobbies is eschatology. We were watching "The Sarah Connor Chronicles" from Netflix when this scene came on, with the song. I looked up the song immediately and downloaded it the next morning. There's just something about it. I have had it about 2 years now. There are days when I play it on repeat the whole day. Now if you are thinking I need a psych evaluation, I have already had it and I'm on medication. No worries.

Christmas songs... hands down also, "O Holy Night", followed by "Silent Night".

Christmas fun songs....Jingle Bell Rock. Grandma got run over by a reindeer.

Traditional fun songs....Jingle Bells. Just went to an elementary school band concert yesterday. They played it...sloowly. Tonight I go to a High School Chorale, tomorrow, a Jr. High School Chorale.

Mariah Carey's "All I want for Christmas" always puts a smile on my face :D http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MDp4uCWm9_s
Always loved this one since I was a kid but it's not what you would call a traditional Christmas song. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hGRkNaMFp6w
All the traditional stuff from Burl Ives.
I am more familiar with Kylie Minogue's version of "Santa Baby" but always liked Ertha Kitt.

I too will go for O Holy Night. When sung by a good baritone it is a very powerful song. I have sung this song many times at church gatherings over the years but have reached an age when I can no longer do it justice. :(

The only life dream I have ever had would be to sing O Holy Night wonderfully, as you say Gordon. Alas, I sing terribly.

I love all the songs that have been mentioned. Christmas music helps to make this a special time of year.

I always like to hear Lisa Lange singing "All I Want For Christmas Is You".

My grandfather and his brother published and owned the copyright protection on a now famous early 20th century Christmas Carol (Gesu Bambino)
It was originally a church pipe organ work, then carillon, now spun out of control. Dozens of variations on youtube.

"Happy Christmas (War is Over)" - John Lennon

Two of my favorites (though in a bit of a heavier vein)

Most anything from Ray Charles. Like "That Spirit of Christmas." But a lot of other stuff.

Love LDB, most any variation.

I actually like quite a bit of it. Not a music snob.

Larry, you are right, I missed that line. I hear that version on the radio station I listen to. I think they play it at least 3 times per 24 hour period. It is fun to listen too.
Joe, and for the others that like O Holy Night, have you listened to this version? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2stv6K9gVaU Talk about goosebumps.
John, there are several a capella versions of it too that are fun. Search Youtube for Urban Method You're a Mean One, Mr Grinch. Other groups have done the same version.
Shawn, The Sing Off show last year did John and Yoko's Happy Christmas/War Is Over as they signed off. About 14 groups from 3 seasons were singing, and they had audience participation. It was very touching.
I'm gong to quit trying to comment on each entry and just enjoy them! Thanks for all the submissions. I hope there are more! Jim.
