I'm in the beginning stages of making a small scale piano "box" for a client, ruffly 3' x 2' which will resemble the shape of a Steinway grand piano, their largest, the model D.

I'm having no luck finding hinges that are similar to those in the photo, commonly called a bent butt hinge. I've found plenty of sources for full sized hinges but I need much less than the 2" wide hinges that Steinway uses. 3/4" to 1" max width might work. A similar hinge without the bend would work also.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Kent

Kent, Lee Valley has something called brass strap hinges for boxes. These don't have the bend and may be too small for what you are needing.

Don't have an answer to your question but I live 10 minutes away from the Steinway Piano factory. The amount of rough cut lumber stacked in there lot is unbelievable. I think they have a kiln on site too.

Kent,

Check this website http://www.wwhardware.com/national-hardware-solid-brass-miniature-hardware-s-and-nm/ scroll down to Item # 211433.....click on the "solid brass" button on that line. It's close and about the right size.

Might try Winks Hardware in Portland, OR (http://www.winkshardware.com/index.html).

You could probably cut this one (http://www.rockler.com/product.cfm?page=16941&site=ROCKLER) and bend one leaf for a pretty close match - 5/8" wide.
