I am sure this is a easy fix, but is there a way to make it so I do not laser the color white? This is a issue when I have a outline on letters and backgrounds. Sometimes I can catch it - other times I miss then it dithers the surface...uugghhh.

I am using Corel x6 and epilogs driver for the laser.

Thanks, Jeff Greer

Sounds like your "white" is not pure RGB white (256, 256, 256). Perhaps one of the RGB components is slightly less than max 256, or you have a CYM "white" that isn't converting to pure RGB white. Make sure you are using RGB and 256, 256, 256.

Been there done that, you need to check to make sure PURE WHITE. Always happens when you think everthing is perfect!
Thank you MR. MURPHY!!!

I've found even "pure white" can engrave.....especially at 1200 dpi

I always make sure that anything "white" is gone.....for example, sometimes the middle of the letter "D" is actually a white fill rather than no fill at all.......so I will "trim" the inside of the "D" to make sure there is no white fill......hopefully that makes sense.

When I look at it, it is saying 255,255,255 - how doI change it to 256,256 ,256? Thanks!!

255 is correct because it starts at 0. I do what Steve said and try to remove it when possible, I have been bitten a few times by this.

Not really sure about what your issue is, Are you talking a raster image? With the area around the image engraving?
Do you have an outline box that engraves. (Epilogs engrave .5pt and abouve) Does the area have to have a white fill or can it be transparent?
If it is an outline around the text click on the outline tool and pick "none"

Just in case you forget to check each time, can you change your default power settings in the driver?
If you change the white settings to say.. 100 speed, 0 power.. then even if you forget to check the
color space, the driver should treat white as a color to engrave with 0 power. Not the fastest, but
at least you won't engrave anything you don't want to.. this is just a backup plan, mind you.

What my issue was that I had a white outline around some letters to contrast it against the background, and it left a dithered surface when it burned it. It is probably me more then anything but how would I change it??

I would attach the cdr. file if I knew how.

I have had similar problems since I upgraded to x6 and despite changing default colour settings numerous time when opening any file I check that everthing is RGB, any cmyk can give you greif!!!

I am having a similar problem. When I upgraded to CDX5 on my XP machine it wanted to engrave everything to CMYK and turned black to grey and white to a halftone dot pattern. I just got a new Win7 machine and installed CDX5 on it and I can't figure out how to fix this again. It's taking all my old files and automatically turning them into CMYK by default. I changed the color management settings to keep black true black, but all my image files are becoming cmyk. I even edited the bitmap, tried changing to rgb, still the same problem, changed to black and white 1 bit, it's still engraving the "white" background with a halftone look. I so don't want to have to edit every file I have saved. Anyone have a thought?

Using a 75watt 32EX Epilog. Thanks.

It seems like I get it when I convert a pic to gray scale. - had it happen again. It there a way to pic a colr and delete all that color in a drawing? I had a "white" that was 255,253,255 and it lasered....

You can change colors by doing Edit, Find & Replace, Find & Replace Objects and there are several different methods in there to change the color from one to another.

X6 is most-likely the problem if it's already 255 255 255 White. After upgrading to X6, I had several problems where the laser was engraving something "white" that used to work for years prior to the upgrade. I posted several solutions to color issues here on the forum regarding the challenges I dealt with during & after the X6 upgrade. A search on this forum should find the threads.

If it's a B&W image anyway, force the conversion to 1-bit color... that should fix it.
