I'm building a portable kitchen island 4'x8' with drawers, cabinets and a granite top. I'm having a hard time finding lifting caster systems. I'm thinking 2 sets, one each end with a pedal control to pick it up and set it in place. Does anyone have an idea?

Opps it's a 2'x4' island.

Rockler has these lifting workbench casters (http://www.rockler.com/product.cfm?page=30842&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_term=&utm_content=pla&utm_campaign=PLA&gclid=COy6pfPhmLQCFQu0nQodeikAXg), but they might be a little obtrusive for a kitchen island.

Woodcraft has some nice ones in their catalog.

These I present because they are much nicer looking and fun than industrial casters BUT they are not lifters as you specified.
Some do come with the lock feature though. http://www.mockett.com/furniture-hardware/furniture-legs-casters/casters
