Do you use one of the cones when engraving glass? We get alot of build up on the nose of the cone when engraving glass. We have the air assist on curious if the cone is needed.

I'd look at it this way: the cone is keeping all those sharp shards of glass from hitting the lens. I get the same thing when working on stone and also rubber stamps.
Wipe it down occasionally, and consider it a protector. If you're pulling a lot of dirt up into the cone (venturi effect) and depositing on the lens, the Trotec method of setting the air assist level is to loosen the locking nut on the adjuster, turn the valve closed (in) until you feel resistance w/out forcing. This should seat the valve closed. Open the valve stem three complete turns. Tighten locking nut. This works pretty well as a starting point, and will stop a lot of the "sucking in" of dirt onto the lens from a cyclonic action. Hope this helps.

You should have received two cones with your machine, the one in Marks picture looks like the smaller diameter cone. Bill if you are using the large cone you may want to try the small one which will improve the air flow at the nozzle.

FYI, we recently started a trotec users group at this link:

I have two cones but I think the smaller of the two is for a 1 1/2" lens which I do not have. It will not work with a two inch lens but a two inch cone will work with with a 1 1/2 inch lens.

Set the air assist properly and you should be ok.
