It all started on Sunday. I chainsawed a bunch of logs and then hauled them over to the shop to bandsaw them into blanks. Got a couple of them done, hit the switch to cut the next one, and nothing, nada, zip :eek:. It turns out the switch was bad. Anyway, while clearing away some of the mess to get some access to the back of the bandsaw, I came across this little mesquite log (among other things) that had probably been sitting there for the last 2 years, covered in sawdust and little bits of cutoffs. Looked at the ends of the log and they were in pretty good shape so I set it aside.
Monday I picked up a new switch, and after changing out the switches my glance fell on the little mesquite log and I thought "what the heck", so I cut it in half (there's enough left for another box or hf), mounted it up and started turning.
The wood was dry and there's just a hint of curl to it.
It's 5" x 3 3/4" finished with a coat of antique oil.
