Very nice.......unusual sides, with the stepped features.........gotta love that grain! Is this cola or Koa? Not familiar with cola....is it the same wood that cola nuts come from? South American?

At any rate, this is very nice indeed!

Thank you :)

Cola is a local term for a very hard wood that is here. It is very hard to work with and dulls tools very quickly. Some of the local expats call it ironwood although I'm not convinced that it is related to desert ironwood. It takes a finish beautifully though.

Carl, is the inside stepped as well? Very nice piece, btw. I like that it is different.

Hi Mike,

Thank you.

The inside is smooth and follows the shape of the outside.

Very, very nice! Beautiful piece of wood and an nice job turning it. What do you use for a photo backdrop?

For the photos that I use on my website I extract the piece from the digital photograph in photoshop then add a gradient background so the piece is displayed nicely. As yet I cannot afford a decent photography setup to enable me to take more artistic shots.
