Pair of Wedding Boxes

Recently finished a pair of "wedding boxes" for a client. She is giving them as gifts to friends that are getting married. They are 16" X 12" X 8". The woods are African Mahogany and Walnut. The walnut box has several items that are mementos of one of the brides and the client asked that we design in a way that they were displayed on the exterior of the box. She also wanted a wave inlay applied. At first I wasn't sure how it would turn out, but as it developed, I liked the final look.
I outsourced the engrave/inlay work. I don't have a laser.

I really like how these turned out. I am a fan of building boxes in between larger projects to use some special woods that I have little left of. I have been looking into inlaying some initials on a box im working on now but am a bit intimidated. Lettering can be real pain to get proportions correct. I do 90% of the work by hand which makes the letter inlay that much harder to get right. I am curious where you found that hasp? I really could use something just like that on a box I made a while back.

I considered doing the inlay by hand but have not attempted that before and thought that with a "short window" to complete them and ship, I couldn't afford the time/screw-ups to learn the process on this job.
The clasps that you are asking about are from Lee Valley. Like most woodworkers, I find many needed items at Lee valley.

Jim, those are just outstanding. OK, I have to ask. Did you make the wave inlay from scratch? And, in any case how did you accomplish the inlay? Beautiful.

You know, with half of marriages failing, it's sort of a shame to put peoples names on such beautiful work. Hopefully, these will go to those of the other half.

I did not make the wave inlay. It was purchased. I routed out a shallow recess at the base of the box and mitered/glued it in.
I do like the way it turned out on the box.....gave it a different look.
I know the box won't hold the marriage together but maybe if they put enough "good memories" in the box it will help!!
