Here are some pictures of my lastest project, finished it just in time since this is my gift to my bride for our wedding, which is coming up this weekend. Anyway the chest is made from soft maple and the dovetail keys and accent strips in the top are redheart. The finish is BLO, shellac, and top coated with laquer, which was then rubbed out.

Very nice jewelry case. I have a similar project in my future. Hopefully it will turn out as nice as yours. The bookmatching on the doors is a nice touch.

Where did you get the hook hardware?

John, that is beautiful! Just flat-out gorgeous! :D I haven't had the time yet, but will be visiting your site for more details. Was this your own design or did you find the plans somewhere? If so, WHERE???:) Anyhow, I'm duly impressed and I'll bet your bride-to-be will be thrilled with it! Great job and thanks for posting it. Inspirational!

VERY NICE!! Was each of the front/side pairs originally one board then rejointed at 45's? Can't figure out how you did such a sweet job grain matching going around the corners unless you had some help from Mother Nature.

Thanks Guys,

The chest was my own design, I had the idea for it in my head, and one day drew it out and thought through the build process and went to it. Had to chance a couple things slightly along the way, but it turned out very well. The front and sides are from two different boards, I had wanted to use the same board as the front, but it wasn't wide enough. The front, sides and the inside sides are all bookmatched.

I got all the hardware from Lee Valley, they also have a 6 hook version.

Thanks,

John, I'm speechless.

Well, almost. Might I inquire as to the overall dimensions?
I have one on my short list. The design I am/was going to use is nice, but pales in comparison to yours.

Thanks for taking the time to post the pics. And your other projects are similarly first class. :D

Oh, yeah, all the best in your marriage. :)

The only thing wrong with it (so my wife says) is that it is WAY to small. Oh well you can always make a bigger one!

NICE JOB!

Karl,

I would measure it to get the exact dimensions, but I've already boxed it and wrapped it up.:D It is approx. 15in tall, 11in wide, and 6 3/8in wide.

Thanks,
John

LOL......we have a small house, a small bedroom.........and an even smaller budget, so this should work just fine for now!! It least I hope it takes a while to fill this one up!
