It is hollow, the sphere is cut from layers from a single board. here is a pic of the layers...

Boy that is a great ornament. I am always amazed at folks that have taken the time to learn how to turn a real sphere! I can only muster the right half (while on the lathe). The left half ends up getting oblonged!

I could easily see a tree covered in these or a variation of these. Great job.

Scott, if you ever get a chance to see a Jerry Kermode demo, he teaches a method for hand cutting spheres.
