I saw an ad today for a "Sorbothane Soft-Blow Mallet" claiming it is superior to standard (shot-filled) dead-blow hammers for woodworking assembly. It intrigued me a little, since I keep finding myself needing a dead-blow, making a mental note to shop for one, then promptly forgetting until the next time I need one.

In theory, the sorbothane hammer is a great idea--no bounce, all the benefits of a dead-blow with a soft face that by its nature resists marring surfaces. Unlike those good 'ol rubber mallets, it won't leave skid marks, either.

Anyone use one of these? Worth the investment?

Thanks!

D.

I like a good old steel hammer and a block. I can "feel" a joint close much better with this than a deadblow.

Just my 2cents.

I walk on Sorbathane every day. All my shoes have had their factory insoles removed and I replace them with Sorbathane. Love them.

I use a shot-filled one I picked up from Harbor Freight for a few bucks... nothing special about it, but it works.

Dan, I replaced my black rubber mallet with a white one, for just that reason.

$39.95? Pass. I'll stick with my cheap deadblow.
