Big Walnut Salad Bowl

When my daughter-in-law saw the first bowl that I made back in January she said that she wanted a big heavy salad bowl for Christmas. Well the time is near so this is what I came up with. 13.5"w x 5"h. weighs 4.5lbs

An odd thing about this is that after applying walnut oil I put the bowl outside in the sun to help speed curing and for about three days it had a distinct watermelon smell. My wife and grandson and I noticed it immediately. Anyone else come across this? The smell has since dissipated.

Toby - that is one beautiful bowl! Nice size and I really like the heft to it! Your DIL is going to love it! Can't help you on the smell - haven't worked with Walnut that much.

Nice work, Toby.....beautiful piece of walnut. Cannot help with the smell either, but I like the rim and the deep form.

Thanks all. Leo, I don't like watermelon either. The smell is almost gone and it is a gift so all is well.
