All turned from Maple burl, and finished with differing amounts of wipe on poly. Hollowforms are 5" x 3 1/2" and 5 1/4 x 3 1/2"
the "different" one, I call it the shell is 4"w x 5"h this piece was initially turned with a small tenon on the base that was ment to be mated to a pedestal base but upon bringing it into the house to show to the wife she insisted that I turn off the base and display it as a piece of shell.
C & C welcome

Nice work John.......the hf is pleasing in its curve and minimal foot, smallish opening, and the half shell does look like half an egg shell that has been cracked open....pretty wood and thin walled......doesn't get much better!

It's hardly relevant...but I really like you choice and application of finish John, form and grain get to do their thing!

John,

Both pieces are very nice. I think your wife made a good call. It is beautiful and very unique that way. I really like the HF, and am picturung it sitting on the wife's piano in the front room. I would have to put yours there, since I can't seem to find time lately to do any hollow forms. Christmas gift time you know.

All are nice but the "different" one is fun. Looks really thin. Wife had a good idea. It looks natural on its side.

Nice work, John! I tweaked one of the images so folks might get a better idea on the color of the beautiful burl. Hope you don't mind.

John those are fantastic! "the Shell" is really cool, and definitely perfect baseless. It has a really sweet curve to it (as does the hollowform)

Not sure just how you did this but you got the color near dead on.
