Finally got around to finish turning a piece of mimosa that Tim Rinehart gifted me earlier this year. It is about 10.5 x 3", finished with danish oil, beal buff and ren wax. Nice wood to work with, prominent grain pattern. Pretty pleased with the ogee curve and the finish. Mostly about 1/4" thick but feels a bit heavy in the base when I hold it (definitely thicker down there). Always something to work on with the next one! C+C appreciated as always.

Very nicely done Bob. Love the ogee shape and the swirl grain pattern on the inside is wonderful and mesmerizing all at once.

Hey Bob, that came out great. I think I need to just give you some more...form and finish (especially the finish) really came out superb!

That is a beautiful bowl Bob! Great job on the ogee form, really nice finish but really jumps out at me is the contrast in the rings. Just love it!

Thanks for the kind words. Definitely an interesting wood to turn with the prominent grain pattern. Also noted that it is quite an open grain which would lend itself well to filling with a liming or other contrasting wax as is often done with ash.

Awesome bowl. The colors are very nice. I've got a roughed out mimosia bowl that I've had for a long time. It looks like I need to finish it now.

The grain pattern is outstanding and well centered. The color and grain reminds me some of Catalba. I always wondered about Mimosa while living in Tyler but never tried any. Now there is no Mimosa that I have seen here in the Hill Country. It just shows that you need to turn whatever is available.

Sure is a good looking bowl Bob, nice work.
I never turned Mimosa, but it makes me think of Catalpa, though your wood is more shiny and has that reddish glow to it, love the looks of it :).

Gorgeous. I have some mimosa roughed out as well, and if I had known it looked like this I would have turned it sooner!!

Nice form, beautiful wood. Can't beat that.
