Here is a small box (about 4x4) that I made yesterday as a Christmas present.
The body is paduak and the lid panel is leopardwood. I dyed a small maple knob
with India ink to match the black velvet bottom insert.
I separated the fitted lid from the body by routing two offset channels (one inside and one outside).
It was a new technique I hadn't used before and I was very pleased with the results.
The finish is a light coat of danish oil to pop the grain and then several coats of spray lacquer.
