After seeing Eric's beautiful apple hf's, I was lucky enough to find someone with an apple log, looking for a little trade.
Today I took the log and cut it into 2 sections. This is from the bigger piece.
This was the first time I've turned apple, beautiful wood and boy does it turn nice! Hollowing was a breeze too!
I didn't have any specific form in mind, I was just going to let the wood talk to me. Once the log was roughed to a cylinder, I decided on a vase form and just for something a little different, I turned a lip at the opening. The form may not appeal to everyone, but I like it.
It's 6" x 4" finished with antique oil and buffed. It's not waxed yet as I may add another coat or 2 of antique oil first.
