After seeing Eric's beautiful apple hf's, I was lucky enough to find someone with an apple log, looking for a little trade.
Today I took the log and cut it into 2 sections. This is from the bigger piece.
This was the first time I've turned apple, beautiful wood and boy does it turn nice! Hollowing was a breeze too!
I didn't have any specific form in mind, I was just going to let the wood talk to me. Once the log was roughed to a cylinder, I decided on a vase form and just for something a little different, I turned a lip at the opening. The form may not appeal to everyone, but I like it.

It's 6" x 4" finished with antique oil and buffed. It's not waxed yet as I may add another coat or 2 of antique oil first.

Stop stop.....man I can see that lathe running red hot all the way here in the midwest. Nuther nice piece Kathy. Love the contrast in the apple and the heavy feel of the piece. Do you have a proxy turner when you are not home??? You go girl.

Kathy, I think it's a nice form. It looks like it wants to be a centerpiece, with an arrangement of dried or silk flowers. Around here, the chefs line up to purchase apple from the tree trimmers, so it can be hard to come by.

Really nice Kathy. I like the lip at the opening, kind of gives it a top. I just love to turn apple, pear and plum!

Nicely done, it just cries out for some silk flowers and stuff.

Unusual form I'll agree, but quite pleasing

Nice vase Kathy. Apple is pretty wood and fun to turn. I am not sure it's done "talking to you" yet though if it is still green.;):)
