Well the LOML wants me to build a sofa table to match this piece. Unfortunately, I'm a sieve when it comes to identifying wood.

Can anyone tell me what this species is?

It looks like Cherry.

Agreed. The dark spots, tight grain, and somewhat blotchy finish (no offense intended- all of my finishes on cherry get a little bit of that no matter what I do) all point to cherry.
