I just picked up a Wheatley 8" short bed jointer which I plan to restore over the winter. The one I have was made in the late 40's and the only hint I have is the pork chop guard which is a muddy green/grey color. The few photos I can find on Vintage Machinery have all been restored with a dark gray paint. I don't think many of these were sold but if you've ever seen one I would appreciate your advice regarding the color of the original paint.245902

I can't help you with the color, but that's a nice looking jointer.

It's a beast! The castings are extraordinarily thick and the table section weighs over 200 lbs. Including the motor I would guesstimate it at about 400 pounds. I powered the old 1 HP induction motor up before I disassembled it and there is NO vibration. I think I'll build a new base unit with decent dust collection and make it mobile. I've been looking for an 8" short bed for the past couple of years and this one just fell into my lap! It's going to be an enjoyable winter restoration project.
