I am looking for a cross-sled cutter setup to make precision cuts on turnings. I'd like to turn some banjo rims and I see many folks using these metal lathe type cross-sled cutters for doing the precision cuts for fitting a tone ring. I see used ones on ebay but I really have no idea how to set one up or whether the used ones are complete with all necessary parts. I would appreciate some help. Thanks!

Rick,

Try www.penturnersproducts.com (http://www.penturnersproducts.com). The owner, John Goodin, is a machinist. He can point you in the right direction.

Rick: You can look on the IAP site for ideas on setting up a metal lathe compound slide for use on a wood lathe. I mocked one up to hold a Bosch Colt. I don't have pics, but you will see others have done them on the IAP.
