Recently I came across some cheap $12 --6" diamond discs on E-Bay in 1200 grit with a 1/2" mounting hole. Bought several---mounted one on an old washing machine motor which runs very smooth and fairly slow. Makes a great hone for a final edge on anything--gouges-knives and does a great job on resharpening various round and square carbide cutter. It will not reshape a tool but is great edges.

I don’t know if they are the same as I purchased (lapidary disc) but they do work great. I mounted mine to a garage door motor which runs at about 80 rpm. Works well for tips like the Sorby also; just hold them with one finger and the rpm is not high enough to sling the item off. Just a few seconds and ready to go. I don’t use it with round tools but skews or bench tools work well also.
