Will Corian engrave like Acrylic? I just need to go a few thousands deep for color fill.

Yes, it engraves really nice. No issues.

Anyone have a good source? I need 24" x 24" x .5" sheets in a light tan/sand solid color.I'm trying to escape painting a background color and just paint the fill.

Local kitchen counter suppliers. You might find a drop there. Don't limit yourself to Corian. Look for any solid surface materials in your area.

I just finished a large Corian job on my 45 watt machine. All the power you have, slow speed and more than one pass. At least two, maybe three.

This job took two days to run but if I had one a week I wouldn't do anything else.

You may want to go deeper on the burn as Corian sands well with an orbital sander to rid over spray.

White looks nice with sketchs as it give a "scrimshaw" type effect.

Dupont sells smaller sample sizes if that is needed, 10x10, 4x4 & 2x2 inches

Here's an earlier job I did for Ron Bontz, a SMC member.

I masked each panel with transfer paper then engraved and used a brush on gold from Hobby Lobby. (I particular liked the gold color of this paint and showed it to Ron before we did the job.)

I don't remember whether I ran two or three passes. I believe there were 343 names so that was a little bit of a challenge.

Ron is a talented woodworker so this turned out to be a masterpiece.

Very nice work Mike. That's a lot of fine detail work to paint and the gold looks great. Ron did an excellent job with the woodworking too.

With 75 to 80 watts you can engrave Corian in one pass easily and still get pristine results. We engrave all of our ADA signs and the color maps in one pass to a depth of 1/32" in one pass.

Using a Corian clone may be cheaper and may prove to engrave more easily. On my most recent job I doubt that I got a .030" depth making two passes with actual Corian.

Sketches work great, but if you don't have them you can use plugins like
Andromeda Cutline, Akvis Sketch or Engraver from AlphaPlugins. If you
can get a woodcut look, that works great for scrimshaw effect. I do Corian
pen tubes like that.
