Keith Outten

I just received confirmation that a major Laser Engraving Manufacturer has agreed to sponsor a FreeStuff Drawing and give away a new machine here at The Creek.
Should we accept their offer?

Ron,

All Contributors are eligible to win, you just have to register for each prize that interests you.

We now have a new Trotec Laser Users Group here at The Creek :)

Phill Barnes
11-18-2012, 11:00 PM

Keith,
Just a thought........IMHO I think to be eligible , you needed to be a contributor prior to the drawings announcement. What say you?

Keith Outten
11-19-2012, 6:50 AM
Phil, the vendor will provide shipping.

Thomas, our policy has always been that you must opt-in by posting in the thread before the drawing is done even if it is just minutes before we draw the winners name.

Best guess at this point is that the Anniversary FreeStuff threads will start showing up sometime next week.
There will be a special web page created that we will use to provide more information and a special registration will be required for some of the prizes.
Aaron is still working on the new Anniversary logo for the T-Shirts and Hats, we think that we will be shipping these items by mid December.

This is not a thread you can use to opt-in for the drawing, if it was it would be in the FreeStuff Forum.
I simply asked if anyone like to win a new laser engraver and although we started out slow the list of people who want to win is already getting quite long :)

I'll ask another question:
Is there any other tool or machine that you would like to see included in the drawings on February 11th ?
.

Glen Monaghan
11-25-2012, 12:26 AM
More laser engravers, and good 3D printer :^) Ok and a CNC...

Andrea Weissenseel
11-25-2012, 6:18 AM

I'd love to see a CNC router on that list. I sure could use a drum sander too. Foredom carving set. Hollowing rig for turning (Monster or Cobra).
Fence system - like a Maya or Oneway.

Keith Outten
11-26-2012, 12:37 PM
Free Shipping is part of the prize.

Jim, you know that I have been searching for a company willing to donate a CNC Router. This one is very high on my list of machines that I know everyone would love to win.

I'm also looking for a cyclone system. wood lathe, table saw.....

Keith, making the Creek's anniversary special by giving stuff away to community members/supporters is a great idea.

I imagine the vendors who participate here would be most likely to contribute, a few come to mind:

Lee Valley/Rob Lee - a full set of Veritas planes?, some of the new powdered metal chisels, a set of the miniature plane series.
Lie Neilsen -
Grizzly/Shiraz Balolia -
ToolNut - Festool Kapex, Domino, track saw or Sander+Exactor
Holbren Tool - panel door set, couple sawblades, etc...
Laguna - Bandsaw, ResawKing, Cyclone
Router lift/table - Rockler?
Eurekazone/EZsmart

I'd really like a JDS multi-router and an Akeda dovetail jig.

Some wood would be cool, maybe some bowl blanks for the turners. They might like a Stubby or Robust too.

Just looked at the friends list, surprised at how laser/signmaker heavy the list is. We need more of the traditional vendors/services represented on there too.

I imagine what your really need is some help.

Keep up the fantastic work!

-kg

Keith Outten

Kevin,

Thanks for the ideas, I am adding to the list of machines and tools so I can try to find vendors who would like to participate.
We have a confirmation on a new band saw already.

The Friends of The Creek Directory was started a couple of years ago when we gave away a Camaster CNC Router to promote the directory. To be eligible for the drawing you had to be an FOTC member, this is why there are so many engraving and sign oriented people in the directory. I wish I knew how to get more people to support the FOTC and how to encourage more people here to use it.
.

Jim Underwood
11-27-2012, 9:26 AM
Well the Freestuff drawings will definitely pull in more people for that FOTC. The key is showing them that it's effective advertising for their business. How do you draw their customers to the directory? If you can figure that out, then you've got it made.

Mike DeRegnaucourt
11-27-2012, 9:48 AM

Jim,

ALL of our tenth anniversary prizes will be open to Contributors.......you don't have to be a FOTC member to be eligible to win any of the prizes.
We want all of the people who have helped us keep The Creek online to be able to participate and win. Of course our FOTC members will also be be eligible as well.

So you still refuse to be specific, do you?

Craig Matheny
12-04-2012, 6:56 PM
Ok Kieth I can read and can follow directions most of the time. However, have we all missed the boat? If this is not the correct place to register then would you be so kind as to PM the correct location so no one else can find it? Just saying it would kind of help with the odds a little.:D

I'm watching this thread with a strange mixture of excitement and hilarity.

The first because wow! this is looking to be a very exciting drawing, even if (as is most highly probable) I'm not the winner the vicarious joy of whomever does is certainly worth something. Way to go Keith!

The latter because it clearly highlights my expectation that anything over one sentence long will never be read. I expect no one to see this part.

Ken Fitzgerald
12-04-2012, 11:09 PM
If you can't follow directions, then you clearly should be opted out :D

Scott.....I just didn't want anybody misunderstanding the purpose of this thread or the requirements to be eligible.

Keith Outten

No More Hints :)

I'm happy to give you advanced information because this is the most expensive machine we have ever offered in a FreeStuff Drawing. Also to show all of you how committed the people at Trotec have been toward our Community, the support for this drawing comes from their Sales Director and President of the company in their Michigan office. Trotec corporate in Austria also approved this drawing so their entire company has been just fantastic. We are very fortunate to have such a prize to give away to someone here and to have established a connection with Trotec.

It is to your credit that we are able to establish the kind of relationships that we have with our Advertising Sponsors. Ours is a great Community comprised of people from all over the world who come together to share and learn together in a friendly and respectful atmosphere. Now pat yourselves on the back........no matter who wins this fabulous machine we will all be happy that it was one of our own.

We are now waiting on our server administrator, Aaron Koehl, to program the registration script for this prize so we can get on with the official FreeStuff Drawing. Unfortunately Aaron is in Canada presenting his last paper for his PHD..........he will be back on Friday.

I'm new to The Creek. I already have a band saw. Put me into the draw however and if I win I'll give it to someone who would appreciate one.

Ok I'll be the first to admit I'm not the sharpest chisel on the workbench. I did say I was new to The Creek. I thought I'd check out what sort of things go on here so I thought I'd check out the "Whats New" tab. Guess what... I am. My first post. I felt like I was doing OK considering my limited skills on this puter. Next I thought I'd see what's going on in the "Shop" Yea right... like I said not the sharpest chisel. Shouldn't that tab read "Shopping?" no wait leave it as is... my wife always tell me to get her something nice when I tell her where I'm headed when I leave by the back door where my shop is:)

I sure would. I don't have one. I'm new to the forum. This is my first post. I'm looking for a mentor near Brenham Texas. I'd like to learn before I buy.

There will be a thread in the Free Stuff Drawings section of the board. I'm guessing that it might show up next week. That's is where you will be able to sign up for the prizes.

I fully expect to have the new FreeStuff thread created for the Trotec Laser Engraver later this evening.
We have one minor edit to make on the registration log, as soon as Aaron can make the change we will be officially on our way.

By next weekend we hope to have a special web page designed that will include all of the information for each prize and each company that decides to join our celebration.

It is just not right that mods are not eligible.:(

Your right Mike, Moderators should be able to participate in our FreeStuff Drawings and be eligible to win. If there was no objection I would be glad to make the change in policy since Aaron and I are the only ones who are involved with drawings. Aaron creates the scripts and I run the program that selects the winners name.

Keith

Don't think about it. I was only kidding. But kind of you to consider it anyway.
