Any suggestions on what restorer/chemicals I can use on a Gerstner cross sawn oak machinist tool cabinet ? 60+ years
Dark, dirty, slight oily condition. I won't go as far as bare wood. Just something to clean it up and re-apply an oil finish.
Thanks

I suggest GOJO cream hand cleaner from the auto parts store.
NOT the "citrus" type, get the original cream hand cleaner WITHOUT pumice. This will remove most dirt and grime and will not harm the finish. If the finish is removed; most anything would have removed it, if not you have done no harm.

Thanks Do I need to use any steel wool with or after ? It seems restoring products like formby's or minwax are used with fine steel wool.

I would refrain from using steelwool; you want to remove dirt and grime, not finish.
