I am hoping that someone here has some info regarding a rather curious find.

I am at least a little familiar with the M&P Bow Belly saw. The ones I am familiar with have an extreme "breast" along the tooth line and a very unique handle.

Mine is still a #100 Bow Belly and the handle seems to be original.

Does anyone have a similar saw or info (catalog) that might show this particular saw?

What does it say on the medallion?

George,
Yes the handle is unique. The area of the upper handle closest to the back is rounded with a slight chamfer. 99.9% of the saws I have use the 20 degree angle to the back with the wide chamfer. In fact that seems to be the one common trait that most handsaws share. That is why I mount all my saws resting on that portion.

Jim,
The medallion is the standard M&P. No patent dates on this one. 245614

The medallion is the standard M&P.

Justice, Medicine and a Sword...

I wonder if that is any indication of the founders' backgrounds. (Turns out this is from the municipal flag of Cincinnati)

Found some more information here:

I think this is about the panther saw, haven't read it yet.

Found a Catalog for the Ohio Saw Works (M&P) in the 1870 - 1879 section but it doesn't have anything on your saw.

Depending on the saw nuts, your saw may have been built later.

Thanks again,
I have looked at that catalog.

This saw has the 1876-1887 hardware. They are prone to breakage and hard to find.

That handle is very similar to the one on my Richardson Bros. saw.
