A little experiment I did a couple weeks ago. Not terribly scientific.

I used a coarse rasp, cabinet rasp, aluminum file, cabinet file and a doctor blade to roughly bevel the corner of a 2x3. Half a dozen strokes with each tool.

I was quite surprised with the quality of the finish left by the aluminum file, close ups and running my finger over the edge, it was very difficult to determine which left the better finish - the cabinet file (generally the last rasp/file you'd use) and the aluminum file.

I was also very impressed by how quickly the doctor blade removed material and the finish it left behind. Some of that may have been due to it's weight. It's substantially heavier than the others because of it's width (1.5") and length (14"). The others were all 10" long. All were made in the USA Nicholsons.

Thoughts and feedback are welcome, as always.
